Slush’D made landfall in Lusaka Zambia for the first time at the end of September 2023 making Zambia the first country in the region to host the prestigious tech event.
The event being hosted in country has been months in the planning following the tour that was conducted at the Finland event in 2022. That particular tour include both private and public sector stakeholders.
Slush is a start-up and tech event held annually in Helsinki, Finland. Slush facilitates meetings between the founders of start-ups and investors such as venture capitalists, accomplished with events such as matchmaking and pitching competitions. Slush aims to build a worldwide start-up community
At the heart of organizing this event was National Technology Business Centre (NTBC) which is currently under the leadership of Dr. Chitundu Kasese.
Based on the speech he delivered on Day One of the Lusaka edition of Slush’D which was graced by the Minister of Technology and Science Honorable Mr. Felix Mutati, it was clear that this event was poised to be a game changer for how local techie companies could access the necessary skills and resources to develop investment pitches that would lure big capital to the country.
Furthermore, the team that brought this event to life deserved a pat on the back for luring blue-chip banks such as Zanaco and Stanbic Bank who conducted a number of fireside discussions around the importance of tech in Zambia.
Financial insight were among the media partners at this year’s event with Founder being part of the panel discussion that was held on day two that paired FIZ with Sampay CEO John Samaras and Founder at Hrvst Christopher Chileshe for candid discussion on the impact of fintech and what trends were impacting the market.
