The SEC launched the Regulatory sandbox, a tailored regulatory environment that enables financial services businesses to provide access to limited scale innovative products, solutions and services, while protecting investors and promoting the development of the local capital market. The Regulatory Sandbox provides an evidence-based tool for fostering innovation while allowing the Authority to remain vigilant to investor protection, financial stability and integrity risks.

Since 2019 PremierCredit has been supporting local entrepreneurs and small scale traders in Zambia, many of whom are women, through offering micro loans and thereby increasing their access to capital and the ability to grow their businesses.

Chilufya Mutale, Co-Founder and CEO of PremierCredit, stated “We are extremely elated about our innovation and being the first mover in the Zambian market redefining alternative finance and enabling inclusive growth in a regulated environment. We can now connect investors to borrowers through an AI driven P2P lending platform that provides customer-centric alternative finance with ease as all processes are digitally enabled.”

The innovation further strengthens our commitment of providing inclusive digital financial services to underserved segments and the unbanked population. Today, previously disadvantaged income groups can become Investors with as low as ZMW500, empowering other small business owners and transitioning them into formal financial services.
