Zambia Sugar has announced the resignation of its Company Secretary, Mwansa Mutimushi.
“In accordance with Section 3.59(b) of the Lusaka Securities Exchange Listings Rules, the Board of Directors of Zambia Sugar PLC wishes to announce the resignation of Ms Mwansa Mutimushi as Company Secretary effective 30th September 2020”, read a statement issued by Finance Director Raphael Chipoma on 2 November 2020 who takes over the role as interim Company Secretary until a suitable replacement is found.
Mwansa, who holds a Bachalor of Laws and Masters of Laws from the University of Zambia and University of Turin, respectively, has served on the Board for 6 years, much to the delight of the sugar company. “The Board also wishes to thank Ms Mutimushi for her 6 years of service to the Company and wishes her all the best in her future endeavours”.
She joined Zambia Sugar in 2014 and was one of three women who sat in the Rebecca Katowa led management team. Coincidentally, the 2015 annual report was both Rebecca and Mwansa’s maiden report to shareholders and they continued to deliver on the promises they made.
When Mwansa joined, the company’s mantra at the beginning of the journey was continuous improvement programmes, cost reduction, and operational efficiencies. In that year, the business created a total of 6650 job opportunities and paid in excess of K730 million into the local economy through payments to employees, direct taxes, and cane growers. Fast forward to her final year, Mwansa sees off her former employer return to dividend-paying. Zambia Sugar this year will pay a dividend of K0.24 per share for the year ended 31 August 2020 which marks a 200% increase from the previous dividend paid.
