Fans of musicals can immerse themselves in Damyna The Musical, which follows the story of an orphaned girl in rural Zambia torn between two loves. Directed by Peter Langmead, the film tells the story of a young girl rescued by a family friend who brings her up herself. Only her adoptive mother and a witch doctor know the truth. In the village where she lives with her new family, Damyna becomes torn between her love for the boy she grew up with and a handsome stranger.
Action-drama lovers can watch Black Dollar, directed by David Kazadi, which explores a young man’s journey into the criminal underworld. Mateo hustles to make a living, but when the opportunity to scam a local politician presents itself, the temptation is too great to resist.
A more introspective film, Maria Kristu: The Buumba Story, directed by Paul S. Wilo, takes viewers on one woman’s journey of self-discovery The Zambian drama tells the story of Buumba, an avid follower of the Maria Kristu Church. She has been taught since childhood that her place in this world as a woman is beside her husband. Conflicted between the church’s doctrine and her pursuit to archive her dreams, she finds herself questioning everything.
