In the battle of opposites between the equity and bond market, as we come to the close of the 2022 financial year. The bond market recorded a score of 92% to 8% on the equity market. During the course of the year there was very minimal trading activity on the equity market leaving the bond market to dominate the capital market week after week.
Equity Market
In the week ended 30th December 2022, a total of 5,642,090 shares were transacted in 290 trades, yielding a market turnover of K22,252,682. Trading activity was recorded in AECI MINING EXPLOSIVES, AIRTEL NETWORKS, BATA, COPPERBELT ENERGY CORPORATION ZAMBIA, PUMA ENERGY, STANARD CHARTERED BANK LIMITED, ZAMBIAN BREWERIES, ZAMBIA FORESTRY and FOREST CORPORATION, ZAMBEEF, ZAMBIA METAL FABRICATORS, ZANACO and ZAMBIA SUGAR. The LuSE All Share Index (LASI) closed at 7,337.79 points. The market closed on a capitalization of K72,872,544,760.85 including Shoprite Holdings and K38,089,859,320.85 excluding Shoprite Holdings.
Bond Market
Bonds of total face value of K388,738,000 were transacted in 21 trades, resulting in a market value sales of K244,769,070.
