Konkola Copper Mines has announced the appointment of a new Provisional Liquidator, according to an official statement.
“I wish to inform the public that Ms Celine Meena Nair has taken over the role of Provisional Liquidator (PL) of Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) following her recent appointment as acting Official Receiver of the Republic of Zambia”, read a statement issued by Acting Chief Executive Officer Enock Mponda on 9th May 2022.
The position of provisional liquidator was until recently held by Milingu Lungu who has since vacated the assignment leaving a vacuum that requires to be filled in immediately. “Ms Nair has assumed all functions relating to the office of the KCM Provisional Liquidator”.
The mining company has further informed stakeholders seeking to get any further clarification on the matter to forward their ‘intel’ requests to KCM’s Corporate Affairs General Manager Shapi Shachinda.
In her previous roles, Ms Celine was at the center of a legal battle with a former employer which she eventually won. “STANDARD Chartered Bank Zambia has been ordered by the Lusaka High Court to pay its former employee an additional K15 million as damages for constructive dismissal”, according to a Daily Nation article published in 2021.
Celine takes over the provisional liquidator role at a time when the Government of Zambia is making strides to consolidate and reform mining in Zambia.
