Explosives manufacturing company, AEL Mining, has announced the retirement of its CEO three years after taking up the role.
“In accordance with Section 3.59 of the Lusaka Securities Exchange Listings Requirements, the Board of Directors of AEL Zambia PLC wishes to announce the retirement of Mr Hendrik Jansen Van Rensburg as Managing Director and Member of the Board of AELZ with effect from 31st December 2020”, read a statement issued by Choice Corporate Services Limited who are AEL Mining’s Company Secretary on 16 December 2020 in Lusaka, Zambia.
The company has also announced the appointment of an interim CEO until the Board finds a suitable replacement or confirms the incumbent. “Furthermore, the Board would like to announce the appointment of Mr Jason Pitchford as the Acting Managing Director of the Company with effect from 1st January 2020”, further read the SENS announcement. “Mr Pitchford started his career in AEL Mining Services in 1997 fulfilling numerous roles including; Explosives Engineer, Regional Manager working in various mining sectors throughout South Africa”.
Pitchford comes with a wealth of experience in the mining sector and has been at the top tier of AEL management since 2014. “He has during this time serviced customers in multiple mining segments and developed his expertise in mining explosive applications and sales. In 2012, he joined Anglo American at Head Office in the Technical Department. Thereafter, he joined AELZ in July 2014 as General Manager”.
The Board expressed their gratitude to Rensburg for his years of service. “The Board wishes to express appreciation to Mr Van Rensburg for his valued contribution to the Company during his tenure as Managing Director and Member of the Board”. Lastly, they have also given a vote of confidence to their new interim CEO who will steady the explosive company into 2021. “Furthermore, the Board would like to congratulate Mr Pitchford on his appointment and wishes him the best in his new role”.
