At an event that was graced by their global organization’s Deputy President, ACCA global celebrated the ushering in of its newest members and fellows in Zambia.
“ACCA Zambia celebrated its new members and fellows at our annual member celebration. Was delighted to have our ACCA Deputy President Jenny Gu and Member Network Panel Chairman Mulendo Siame grace the occasion”, read a LinkedIn post from ACCA Zambia Market Head Janice Matwi.
This important milestone comes less than 8 months into her tenure following her ascension to the role in January 2019.
Formerly Country Head of Kazang, Janice through her LinkedIn feed indicated that “their new members joined a community of 200k members who live across 179 countries and have the most sought after skills improving their employability and career development”.
This milestone for Janice comes weeks after she had inked another 5 year deal between ACCA and Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies. This renewal cemented ACCA’s commitment to Zambia and local teaching institution that has been associated with the illustrious profession for as many years.
“Our members and fellows will be supported to stay at the top of their professional game with CPD sourced from our network of in house experts, leading authors and international facilitators”, further read Janice’s posting which echoed the essence of a profession and reminded pundits of its significance in the modern corporate world.
Although some may argue that Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZiCA) has taken centre stage, this is only because of the disparities in mandate. ZiCA also offers a home-grown offering but has exogenous “powers” to speak on matters of national interest. ACCA on the other hand plays a complementary role albeit not directly in the public eye.
For example, ZiCA can diagnose and explain the impact of GST on the one hand, Janice’s ACCA provides the proverbial academia voice to topical issues on a non-public platform on the other. The former’s mandate is prescribed in the Accountants Act of 2008 which was assented on 24th September 2008 provides for the making and investigation of disclosures made in the public interest. In short, Janice has no pressure to have or make discourse on public issues as that is not her lane; That is ZiCA’s mandate!
Through “speaking a common finance language, the global standards and infrastructure we’ve created and others follow will improve their global mobility and opportunities” is what Janice believes the ACCA qualification offers those that are awarded it. “Their designations will be recognised worldwide”.
Janice is keen on seeing that her new ambassadors maintain the ACCA brand at the highest level. “Maintain our brand reputation through our thought leadership resources available free of cost and capacity building work locally in Zambia”. This is cardinal for the continued respect of one of the oldest professions.
