LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Zambian Breweries is empowering youth and backing the development of sport through a new sponsorship deal with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) that kicked off today.
The nation’s largest brewer is supporting the Charity Shield competition – named after the legendary National Team player and coach, Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu – which acts as a curtain-raiser for the local football season, with the proceeds from the match donated to a charity of the sponsor’s choice.
The support is part of the wider sponsorship of the 2022/2023 MTN FAZ Premier League that the company has taken up as co-sponsor through its brand Carling Black Label. Through this sponsorship Zambian Breweries aims to tap into the soccer passion point of consumers to promote sport in the country.
The Charity Shield is the first chance for Zambian clubs to get their hands on a trophy before the 2022/ 2023 football season officially kicks off. This year’s game will be played between Red Arrows FC and NAPSA Stars FC on August 13, 2022, at the Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
During the one-day event; the top-tier Super Division Champions and the ABSA Cup tournament Champions go head-to-head for the first piece of silverware on the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) calendar.
Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Hon. Elvis C. Nkandu said that sport in Zambia played a huge role in the social-economic development of the country.
He thanked the nation’s largest brewer, Zambian Breweries, for its commitment to the promotion and development of football and sport in Zambia through various sports programmes such as the Pool Championship, Mosi Cup, and School’s Coca-Cola Cup for an unbroken 25 years.
The minister said the government’s manifesto aimed to turn Zambia into the most physically active nation in Africa: “A sports powerhouse and global leader in the use of sports as a tool for sustainable development.”
“At Zambian Breweries we dream big to create a future with more cheers of shared prosperity. We are passionate about creating and sharing superior value, and we believe that sport and particularly football is one such platform for empowering our youth,” said Zambian Breweries Marketing Director Sibajene Munkombwe.
