Two weeks into the month of August trading on the Lusaka Stock Exchange, the bond market recorded a full week of trades completely dominating the equities market by recording a 99% score to 1%. There is more investment in government securities this time around in comparison to this time last year. In regards to the equities market Chilanga Cement recorded the highest turnover throughout the week.
Equity Market
In the week ended 12th August 2022, a total of 1,349,457 shares were transacted in 549 trades, yielding a market turnover of K10,416,155. Trading activity was recorded in AECI MINING EXPLOSIVES, AIRTEL, BATA, COPPERBELT ENERGY CORPORATION, INVESTRUST BANK, CHILANGA CEMENT, MADISON FINANCIAL SERVICES, ZAMBIA REINSURANCE, STANDARD CHARTERED BANK ZAMBIA, SHOPRITE HOLDINGS, ZAMBEEF, ZAMBIA METAL FABRICATORS, ZANACO, ZCCM INVESTMENT HOLDINGS, ZAMBIA SUGAR and CEC AFRICA on the quoted tier. The LuSE All Share Index (LASI) closed at 6,960.46 points. The market closed on a capitalization of K71,229,315,747 including Shoprite Holdings and K36,446,630,307 excluding Shoprite Holdings.
Bond Market
Bonds of total face value of K1,537,673,000 were transacted in 86 trades, resulting in a market value sales of K1,035,303,030.
Week two of August is the best performing week of the month thus far.

The Board of Directors of British American Tobacco (Zambia) Plc (“the Board”) wishes to advise the Shareholders that for the period ending 30 June 2022, the basic earnings per share is expected to be between 60% higher than that of the corresponding period last year for both the group and for the Company. This increase is due to the implementation of an optimal pricing strategy, improved sales mix, and improved operational efficiencies.
