Two weeks into the month of September 2020 Bond trading on the LuSE, the bond market completely dominates the equities market recording a 100%. Increase in production costs due to depreciation of the Kwacha against the US Dollar and continued impact of increased energy costs has negatively impacted the margins and profits of a majority of these Companies’ securities. Hoping for a turnaround in the weeks to come.

In the week ended 11th September 2020, a total of 19,517 shares were transacted in 36 trades, yielding a market turnover of K40,799. Trading activity was recorded in CEC ZAMBIA, LAFARGE, STANDARD CHARTERED ZAMBIA, ZAMBIAN BREWERIES, ZANACO, ZAMBIA SUGAR and ZAMBIA FORESTRY AND FOREST CORPORATION. The Index (LASI) closed at 3,834.35 points. The market closed on a capitalization of K55,510,536,355 including Shoprite Holdings and K21,271,330,375 excluding Shoprite Holdings.
Bond Market Update
During the week, bonds of total face value of K133,030,000 were transacted in 34 trades, yielding a market value sales of K99,461,000.
