NAIROBI, Kenya (June 7, 2024) – GL Africa Energy (GLAE), a leading pan-African energy solutions company, announced the appointment of Brian Mushimba, Ph.D. as Chief Executive Officer of its Power business unit. A respected industry leader with over 25 years of experience, Dr. Mushimba will spearhead GLAE’s power generation and infrastructure initiatives across the continent.

Brian Mushimba holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from The University of Zambia, an MBA from Salem University in the USA as well as both undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering from the USA. His prior roles include leadership positions at energy companies across multiple continents. Dr. Mushimba’s extensive experience driving major power projects, renewable strategies, and environmental stewardship throughout Africa make him uniquely qualified to lead GLAE’s Power business in scaling energy solutions for a region facing significant headwinds driven by climate constraints.
Dr. Mushimba joins GLAE at a time when its Ndola Energy Company, a Zambian power producer, is in discussions with the Zambian Government on the future of the plant after the shutting down of the nearby Indeni Refinery that supplied it fuel feedstock. He will oversee efforts to enhance the operations of the plant in supporting the country’s energy security. Previously, he held senior leadership roles at global energy giants including Eskom, SN Power (now Scatec), and Siemens Power Generation. Dr. Mushimba has also previously served as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of the Republic of Zambia.
“I’m thrilled to join the pioneering team at GL Africa Energy as we tackle the energy trilemma – ensuring affordable, sustainable, and reliable power for communities across the continent,” Dr. Mushimba said. “With GLAE’s expertise and forward-thinking vision, we are primed to deliver scalable energy solutions tailored to Africa’s unique needs and drive the vital transition to a lower-carbon future.”
