Four weeks into the month of March 2020 trading on the Lusaka stock exchange. We are seeing more trading activity recorded on the bond market than at the beginning of the year. The bond market eclipsed the equities market recording a 97% to 3% on the equities market. Which was the complete opposite this time last year, as it was the equities market that re recorded a 100% score dominating the capital market.
Equity Market
In the week ended 25th March 2022, a total of 3,739,335 shares were transacted in 331 trades, yielding a market turnover of K7,657,976. Trading activity was recorded in AFRICA EXPLOSIVES CORPORATION LIMITED, AIRTEL, BATA, BRITISH AMERICAN TOBACCO ZAMBIA, COPPERBELT ENERGY CORPORATION, CHILANGA CEMENT, NATIONAL BREWERIES, PUMA, STANDARD CHARTERED ZAMBIA, ZAMBEEF, ZAMBIAN BREWERIES, ZAMBIA METAL FABRICATORS, ZANACO, ZAMBIA SUGAR, FIRST QUANTUM MINING ZAMBIA and CEC AFRICA on the quoted tier. The LuSE All Share Index (LASI) closed at 6,850.18 points. The market closed on a capitalization of K70,648,900,353 including Shoprite Holdings and K35,866,214,913 excluding Shoprite Holdings.
Bond Market
Bonds of total face value of K175,358,000 were transacted in 41 trades, resulting in a market value sales of K106,673,750.
