Weekly Capital Market Review (16th to 20th March 2020)

Three weeks into March 2020 trading on the LuSE we see a replica of the second week of February is performance. the equities market is not completely dominated as it scores 12% to 88% on the bond market, we will see if this time the equities market will retain its glory of not being completely dominated.

 Equity Market Update

In the week ended 20th March 2020, a total of 1,068,793 shares were transacted in 50 trades, yielding a market turnover of K2,714,811. Trading activity was recorded in AFRICA EXPLOSIVES LIMITED ZAMBIAZ, BATA, COPPERBELT ENERGY CORORATION, LAFARGE, STANDARD CHARTED BANK LIMITED, ZANACO, ZAMBIA SUGAR and COPPERBELT ENERGY CORPORATION AFRICA on the quoted tier. The Index (LASI) closed at 4,228.43 points. The market closed on a capitalization of K57,223,768,167 including Shoprite Holdings and ORPORATIONK22,984,562,187 excluding Shoprite Holdings.

With three weeks into trading on the LuSE in March 2020. We can track the LuSE All Share Index LASI in the first week LASI closed at 4,260.56 points and in week two the LASI closed with 4,243.65, here we see a point drop 16.91 from week one. The LuSE All Share Index closed with 4,228.43 points in the third week which depicted another drop in points from week two of 15.22 points.

 

Bond Market Update 20th March 2020

During the week, bonds of total face value of K15,784,000 were transacted in 17 trades, yielding a market value sales of K20,478,000. The first week of Corporate bond trading is the best thus far for the month of March. As it recorded bonds of total face value K487,260,000 in 13 trades, yielding K242,792,000 in market sales.

Following the Notice of AGM issued on 17 March 2020, the 26th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the members of Zambian Breweries Plc will still take place on Thursday, 26th March, 2020, commencing at 09:00 hours.

However, as a risk management measure and in the light of the current public health warnings related to spread of the COVID-19 virus and Circular No. 2 of 2020 issued by the Securities and Exchange Commission, proceedings will no longer be held at the previously announced venue but will instead be broadcast by a Zoom link as set out below to shareholders and invited participants
