The Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) is this year hosting the 2ND National Economic Summit under the theme ‘Sustainable Development Goals: 10 years to 2030. Where Are We As Africa?’
The Summit will be held in the tourist capital, Livingstone from Thursday 30th July to Friday 31st July of 2020 at Avani Victoria Falls Resort. The Summit will be officiated by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
In the buildup to the Summit, National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) Director General Mr. Yollard Kachinda this morning welcomed the EAZ team to discuss partnering in hosting of the 2ND National Economic Summit.
Mr. Kachinde was joined by Director Contribution and Benefits Mr. Mason Mwiinga and Director Strategy and Business Performance, Mr. Ronnie Kamanya. The EAZ Team was led by the Deputy National Secretary Ms. Rita Mkandawire, Executive Director Ms. Mirriam Nachilima, Head of Finance Mrs. Chaze Wachila and Head of Communication Ms. Tendai Posiana.
During the meeting, it was noted that NAPSA recognizes the SDG’s as a significance focus and the institution endeavors to actively participate and contribute to the achievement of the goals ahead of 2030.
Subsequently, Mr. Kachinda noted that the institution looks forward to partner with the Association in its work and various avenues.
“It is evident through the track record of the Association that is a key player in the National economic discourse,” Mr. Kachinda said.
The National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) in 2019, partnered with the Economics Association of Zambia in hosting the Inaugural National Economic Summit and was one of the official sponsors. The Summit hosted His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Uhuru Kenyantta, former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Jakaya Kikwete and nationally-, and internationally- acclaimed economist and though giants in Livingstone.
Furthermore, the Executive Director Ms. Mirriam Nachilima thanked the Director-General and his team for the great support rendered to the Association.
“It is a sign of great progress for the development agenda when key stakeholders in the economy come on board to support the work of the Association,” Ms. Nachilima added.
She noted that the 2ND National Economic Summit is aimed at explicitly reviewing the Sustainable Development Goals en route to 2030. She further added that the Summit is all-inclusive and is across sectors and is urging all key stakeholders to come on board in order to see the success of this year’s Summit.
The 2ND National Economic Summit will provide an excellent platform for providing accurate, timely and relevant economic information on Zambia’s positive economic growth and attaining the Sustainable Development Goals, which will attract countless participants from all corners of the World. Additionally, with national, regional and international media coverage, the Summit will unquestionably be an investment marketing platform showing Zambia spearheading Africa’s developmental agenda.
