The event yielded significant key takeaways, landmark deals, and commitments to drive renewable energy growth, rural electrification, and digital inclusivity.
Renewable Energy Revolutionย
Zimbabwe and Zambia are poised to lead the renewable energy revolution in Southern Africa, leveraging solar, wind, and hydro power resources. This shift towards clean energy will reduce dependence on fossil fuels, mitigate climate change, and create economic opportunities.
Rural Electrification
Ambitious rural solar mini-grid projects, valued at USD 20 million, will provide clean energy to remote communities, fostering economic growth and improving living standards. This initiative will bridge the energy access gap, empowering rural populations and enhancing their quality of life.
Blended Finance and Local EPC Contractors
The summit emphasized the importance of blended finance, combining official development assistance with private and public resources to unlock additional funding for energy projects. Local and regional Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) contractors will drive innovation and efficiency in renewable energy projects, promoting local content and expertise.
Collaboration and Digital Inclusivity
Cooperation among stakeholders, governments, and the private sector is crucial for achieving sustainable energy goals. Reliable electricity is essential for closing the digital divide and promoting digital inclusivity, enabling access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
Landmark Deals and Commitments
The summit witnessed the signing of landmark deals, including a 100MW electricity generation project for Zimbabwean mines. Vice President Constantino Chiwenga emphasized that “energy access is a fundamental human right, essential for education, healthcare, agriculture, and job creation.” Zambia’s Energy Minister, Makozo Chikote, hailed the partnership as “a new era of cooperation.”
