The Rural Electrification Authority has announced the appointment of former Engineering Institute of Zambia Registrar and Chief Executive Officer as its new CEO, according to a press release by the Authority.
“The Board of Directors wishes to announce the appointment of Eng. Linus Chanda as Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Authority (REA)”, read a statement published by the Public Relations Department of REA on behalf of the Board.
Eng. Linus is a seasoned engineer who not only oversaw over 2000MW generation capacity while he was Director Generation at the National Power Utility at ZESCO but has also been at the helm of Wind Sun Energy Africa Group.
REA is currently involved in several projects that aim to provide electricity for the larger population of Zambia that are in far flung areas. Its goal is to increase access to electricity in rural areas from the current 3% to 51% by 2030.
His understanding of Generation technologies and their deplorability and suitability in various terrains will be of huge benefit while executing his mandate during his tenure. The REA is mandated by an Act of Parliament to provide electricity infrastructure in rural areas of Zambia.
