Three weeks into February 2020 trading on the Luse and the equities markets’ glory was short lived. As the bond market reverts to it’s continuance pattern of eclipsing the equities market with a score of 100% to 0% in week three. It lived a short moment of glory in week two as it was not completely dominated by the bond market with a score of 12% to 88%.
Equity Market Update
In the week ended 21st February 2020, a total of 102,028 shares were transacted in 70 trades, yielding a market turnover of K225,471. Trading activity was recorded in AFRICA EXPLOSIVES LIMITED ZAMBIA, AIRTEL, COPPERBELT ENERGY CORPORATION, LAFARGE , PUMA, REI ZAMBIA STANDARD CHARTERED BANK LIMITED, ZAMBIA BREWERIES, ZANACO and ZAMBIA SUGAR. The LuSE All Share Index (LASI) closed at 4,253.85 points. The market closed on a capitalization of K57,334,443,581 including Shoprite Holdings and K23,095,237,601 excluding Shoprite Holdings.
With three weeks into trading on the LuSE in February 2020. We can track the LuSE All Share Index (LASI) in the first week LASI closed at 4,251.54 points and in week two the LASI closed with 4,254.23 here we see a point gain of 2.69 points. The LuSE All Share Index closed with 4,253.85 points in the third week which depicted a slight drop in points of 0.38 points from week two. The LASI has fluctuated between the three weeks into trading on the LuSE in February.
Bond Market Update 21st February 2020
During the week, bonds of total face value of K99,736,000 were transacted in 25 trades, yielding a market value sales of K67,776,000. The third week of Corporate Bond trading was the best thus far for the month of February as it recorded the highest Total Face vale , number of Trades as well as Market Value Sales.
